Rice Road: an outdoor exhibition of rice in 6 stages based on the enhancement of the environment and activities in the park

Strada del riso

Rice Road

We rediscover the simplicity of rural life between rice paddies, ancient farmhouses and windmills in a land transformed and ordered by men with a centuries-long and endless patience.

A particularly interesting itinerary where you can enjoy a “guided tour” of the park between nature, agricultural tradition and gastronomy that will help you find out more about the technical aspects such as the morphology of rice paddies, water management, flora and fauna, step-by-step rice cultivation, as well as about the social ones –  food and culinary art of the world of rice paddies.

An outdoor exhibition of rice is divided into 6 stages ( Use of water resources ; Land preparation and planting; From the earth to the sky; Treatment and harvesting; Changes of the paddy rice; Preservation and tasting) based on the enhancement of environment and current activities in the park, which are accompanied by fixed and mobile services such as guides, maps and smartphone applications.

The path will take place on foot, through this still unspoiled agricultural area that is enclosed in the Milanese conurbation, between the borders of the city of Milan, Buccinasco and Assago, included in the part of Parco Agricolo Sud Milano between the Navigli Grande and Pavese.

You can experience the tradition, the fatigue and the clarity of the peasant world linked to the cultivation of rice, which in the south-west of Milan and in the whole of Lombardy has got very ancient and strong roots.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to end the visit with a tasting of risotto and typical products (supplied by Cascina Battivacco) at the Trattoria “La corte della Risaia”. The same products will be available for purchase at the shop of Cascina.
